--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I received this from Randy this morning. He is reaching out to our community because he knows we are International!
If you can help let me know or contact Randy directly at the WCV.

Dear Madam Mayor,
Could I ask for your help?
For a non-eaglet project.
By now, you have some understanding of the number of animals that we treat – day in, day out. As much as possible, we strive to feed our animal patients the kinds of foods that they would eat in the wild. However, we sometimes need to supplement these diets with prepared pet foods [opossums, bears, foxes, for example … and we will also mix it up into a “batter” that we give to baby birds].
We try to provide high-quality dog/cat foods that are based on natural ingredients [rather than pet foods that are heavy on corn and grain]. As an example, something like a product from Blue Buffalo would be perfect www.bluebuff.com
During the course of a year, we usually use about 500 pounds of dry dog food, about 10 cases of canned dog food, and about 250 pounds of dry cat/kitten food.
As much as we can, we try to get this food donated to us. We’re reaching out to local pet food stores, etc., for their surplus and damaged products, but we’re often in “competition” with local humane societies and shelters. What we’d like to establish is a relationship with a manufacturer. We’ve had a multi-year relationship with Mars [the Pedigree brand] but, with changes in personnel and reorganization there, we seem to have lost our contact. We have the space and facilities to store up pet food, so we can take a bulk shipment.
We have a few requests pending but no answers … and our stock of pet food is running low.
My question … is there anyone in the EagleCam world who might be or have a good contact … who might work for a pet-food company, or have a brother-in-law, or a cousin … you get the message.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Sandi!

I have put in a call to Blue Buffalo. I have not heard back yet but Here is my email to them.
Hello, I am a volunteer for the Wildlife Center of Virginia. WCV is an organization that provides medical care for sick, injured and orphaned wild animals. The care and treatment is funded solely through donations and volunteers. I have recently become aware of a rather desparate situation at the center and my hope is that you could help.
At a time when the number of patients has dramatically increased they have lost their source for quality food products to feed the animals in their care. They try to provide high-quality dog/cat foods that are based on natural ingredients [rather than pet foods that are heavy on corn and grain].
What they’d like is to establish a relationship with a manufacturer who could supply them with the quality food thta they need. They’ve had a multi-year relationship with Mars [the Pedigree brand] but, with changes in personnel and reorganization there, they have lost their contact. The quantity of foods that they need donated is greater then the store level can support and these donantions can better serve the local pet shelters etc.
The Wildlife Center of Virginia has a website www.wildlifecenter.org with information about all they do.
If you can not help perhaps you could point me in the direction of someone who can.
I look forward to hearing from your company in the near future.
Thank you Dana Lusher

This is the link to the blue buffalo web site contact area. Perhaps if enough of us contact them to let them know about the WCV's plight they will send a bulk shipment. You can cut and paste from Randy's email or put in something of your own about what they are doing for our eaglet? It can't hurt. I just sent one and played up the possible media benefit for their company and I included the link to the WCV web site. There is also a phone number listed if any one is so inclined to call.
thanks,
Sandi

I just contacted them thru email. I also offered to include their website on my eagle site (for what it's worth!) if they followed thru on supplying to the Center. I too mentioned this is a worldwide site and if they contributed, it would not go unnoticed.
Fingers crossed. |
