Caltrans Eagle Cam at Turtle Bay ~ Redding, CA
Observations, Screenshots & Videos
Website: http://turtlebay.org/eaglecam
About this eagle pair and their nest...
.... Patriot & Liberty....
This is Northern California's most famous eagle couple. Caltrans had tried to relocate this eagle pair but they would have nothing to do with that. Dr. Peter Sharpe of the Channel Islands IWS/eagle cams and renowned tree/nest climber Jim Spickler installed this cam and got it up and running.
Here's the story from the Redding.com website:
Bald eagles may go live late this month
Patriot & Liberty have raised 5 eaglets over the past 3 years.
2008... 2 eaglets named Freedom & Conehead

Cam viewing FYI...
This cam is played using QuickTime.
Dave/MIB posted these instructions on the CHIL Forum:
| Quote: | QuickTime 7.5.5 is the latest version if you have XP or Vista. If you can't view the nest you should unistall your QuickTime and then download and install the newest version from Apple.
If you have Windows 2000 you need QuickTime version 7.1.6 as Apple quit supporting Windows 2000 with the next version after that. |
Apple's website/link for downloading QuickTime 7.5.5
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
At home on Windows XP I have no problems since I do have the latest version of QT installed but at work I have Windows 98 and can't get the cam at all. I have emailed Peppermint/Patti to send me the link for older versions of Windows so I'll try that and see if it works. |

Quick 1 to 2 minute 'inspection' visit ... no 'building supplies' brought in this time. At 7:46 PM, ET ....

hmmmmmm It still notes on the website that this is a daytime cam only ... but I checked in at 8:14 PM, ET (5:14 PM, nest time ... right?) and it appears that we have night vision

Yep Lori ... you beat to post ... I checked in a few times after my screencap of the night vision cam image ... we had night vision until just before 8:58 PM, ET ... I noticed the traffic wasn't moving in the background ... thought cam might be frozen ... refreshed and then I got the 'please check back during daylight hours' notice ... it will be interesting to see if they continue the night vision cam and possibly extend it later into the evening once there is more activity at the nest ... certainly would be a nice + _________________ Chris

Lori, thanks so much for starting this thread......I think it is going to be a good one!
Chris, I agree......would be nice if they extend the hours when the activity picks up |

I caught this just before he/she took off. Looks like it will be a good 'training perch' for the young ones.

Sherri... Nice catch!
Unfortunately I won't be able to view this cam here at work until we upgrade and get rid of these archaic computers with Wiondows 98 on them. The only version of QuickTime that will work with Windows 98 is 6.5.2 and it doesn't work with the Caltran cam.
I've tried everything... |

Not to worry for today Lori ...the cam hasn't been working for most of the afternoon I don't believe we have an email address ... just a phone number. I'll do a little research and see if I can find a email address for the contact.
ETA: It may have been something with my PC ... since the refresh wouldn't work, I opened a new search and now Quick Time started up just fine _________________ Chris

Oh my gosh... These 2 are going to be another fun pair to watch.
You can definitely tell them apart. Liberty is a lot bigger than Patriot.
These are from around 4:30pm PT
They do some beaking and then ....... Patriot gives her a few bites.
I have a little video clip of the two of them that I'll add as soon as YouTube decides it's ready. |

Hi Peggy!!!
Yes, this one looks like it could be a good one. I still have that wish for sound though.

Great video Lori; thanks! Is Liberty the female and Patriot the male?
I'd love to have sound with this too. _________________ ~Peggy~
