This is from the article dated Sunday, August 27, 2006.
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/search/content/local_news/epaper/2006/08/27/m1a_SLEAGLE_0827.html
"Two new cameras — one is powerful enough to read a book at 200 yards — were mounted in camouflaged, weatherproof housing 5 to 9 feet above and 30 feet away from the nest. They should allow what should be an even better bird's-eye view this year, officials said."
"We're definitely going to be able to look right down into the nest," said Ginn environmental consultant Toby Overdorf. "You'll be able to identify an individual feather."
"Once mating season begins Sept. 1, no one can go within 750 feet of the endangered species. Audubon hopes to get a permit from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to attach tiny satellite transmitters to the newborn eaglets so their cross-country migrations can be tracked for years via the Internet. Wilma also interrupted that project.
Two eaglets were hatched last year."

This article is from last year:

The Ginn Co., working with Audubon of Florida, has spent $150,000 to install "eagle cams" high above aTesoro neighborhood to give computer users a rare glimpse into the protected world of a bald eagle.
Two high-resolution video cameras — one is powerful enough to read a book at 150 yards — will begin
beaming live video of an eagle nest Sept. 1 as the adults return to their
home for a new season of rebuilding and mating. Internet users can watch
the birds 24 hours a day, seven days a week on Audubon's Web site, which
also will track the newborn eaglets after they've left the nest.
Although it's not the first eagle cam installed in Florida, Audubon's Tim
Bachmeyer said it's the most advanced and may be the only one still
working.
"We can operate one of the cameras by remote control, so if we see
something interesting happening in a particular spot, we can zoom in or
change the angle," Bachmeyer said. "You'll be able to look into the eagles'
eyes and see what color they are."

It looks like it will be an unobstructed view! The below picture isn't clear of course, since taken from what looks like a scanned copy of the newspaper article.

Much thanks to Judy and Aline for helping to get my message posted......hopefully this one will go through! Hey, no one said you have to be computer smart to love eagles!
On my way back from genealogy conference in Boston late yesterday, I spotted 3 eaglets soaring above the Mass Pike about 1/4 mile apart.......such a lovely sight
Really look forward to this Florida cam!

I figure I should start posting anything regarding the FL cam here from now on.......since we are so close to going 'live'
I sent an email to Lynda White thanking her for the update and, while I was at it, asked her whether this cam would have audio.....
Her reply:
"Hi, Sherri,
Still no word on when we are going live, but I am able to access the cameras, and the birds are there every morning and evening. The male has been spotted carrying in nesting material. We won't have audio, because this is a remote location and the cameras are solar powered...it would have been difficult to impossible to add sound. This is how you will be able to access the camera, http://www.audubonofflorida.org/friendsoftheeagle/ and in the meantime there is some information on eagles on the website-I updated yesterday with the news that the birds are back.

Here is the last message I had from Lynda White regarding the cam going live. I wrote to her again because I was concerned that something had happened to delay the process. This response was a week ago on 9/20........guess we will just have to wait for the press release. I kind of wonder whether they will coordinate it with the 'season' starting on Oct 1st.....
"Everything is fine, and the eagles are there sporadically. I have to get the link so that I can control the cameras from here at the center, and we have to move control of the site from Ginn to Audubon. There will be a press event to kick off the live cam. Right now there is only a few minutes each day when the birds are around, so you aren't missing anything!

| What is the season in Florida for nesting for the Bald Eagles? I was kind of hoping from your last message something would have happened in early Oct. Have you any furthur news as to when the camera will be on? |

Goldfinch....as I understand it, the FL 'season' begins around October 1. I am surprised the cam hasn't gone live by now due to the heavy publicity at the end of August regarding its installation. However, the last communication from Lynda White a couple days ago said that there was a slight problem with the link and that it would be fixed soon. She also said the eagles aren't there through most of the day so there isn't much to see yet. Here is hoping this pair will settle in soon!

| Thanks for the last update but since it has been another couple of weeks I was wondering if there was any more news as to when the public might be able to view the cameras. |

goldfinch,
I haven't a clue what is going on with the FL cam. It seemed like it was going to be in Sept or Oct when they installed the cam in August and my earlier correspondence with Lynda White was very encouraging. Perhaps the eagles aren't settled in yet.
